Is the Glenelg tram running?

Yes — the Adelaide Glenelg tram line is in normal passenger service after early-2026 grade-separation works. Temporary closures can still happen; always check Adelaide Metro updates before you travel (especially if search results mention a “Glenelg tram closure”).

After the upgrades (2026)

Services resumed

Grade-separation works (new overpasses) finished with passenger services fully back in early 2026. Plan a normal tram day unless updates say otherwise.

Ignore old “closed” posts

Social posts from the construction period can still appear in search. Use Adelaide Metro updates for anything current.

What still slows you

Street-running in the CBD and along Jetty Road can still pause for traffic and pedestrians even when the reserved corridor is clear.

Can I do the whole trip free?

Usually no. Free travel covers the city free tram zone and the Glenelg beach section (Brighton Road ↔ Moseley Square). The suburban middle generally needs a ticket. See free zones explained.

Is metroCARD the same as Opal?

No. metroCARD is Adelaide Metro (South Australia). NSW Opal, Canberra MyWay+ and Queensland go card do not work as substitutes.

How long to Glenelg?

Often around 30 minutes from a central city stop, depending on where you board and how busy the street sections are. Use the journey planner for your exact stops.
